Born in Athens, GA, and raised by eco-conscious parents, Katie Shields grew up on an organic farm and has always been mindful of living a nontoxic lifestyle.
Katie spent most of her career as a medical device sales representative working for companies Medtronic, Johnson and Johnson, and later in the startup world for Acclarent and Sinusys. Katie transitioned to enterprise software sales with Oracle, primarily focusing on some of the largest healthcare systems in the USA.
As a millennial mom, business traveler, and natural beauty connoisseur, she saw the lack of nontoxic selfcare
options for consumers. Tired of the demands of corporate travel, she launched a disruptive concept called Mylkbar in 2017 with the focus of becoming the first nontoxic nail and beauty franchise system in the USA.
Katie is now leading expansion into other markets to meet the demands of conscious consumers, millennials and
suburbanites who demand a better standard of self care.
Mylkbar’s name was inspired by Katie’s obsession with coconuts and coconut MYLK. Because she thinks coconuts are magical, coconut oil and coconut milk-based products are used daily in our lotions, sugar scrubs, and beauty services.
Our name is alternative because our concept is alternative.
Mylkbar is the first nail salon franchise system in the USA dedicated to the pursuit of nontoxic self-care. We believe in profits driven by a greater purpose to honor the health of our clients, employees, and the earth.
We hope you are also in the market for a fun, fresh, fume-free place to get pretty and relax. Because everyone deserves fresh air and rosé with their mani pedi in a spot that is super-duper instagrammable!
